Tips for Achieving Your Goals, Working on Your Resolutions, & Being a Girl Boss

Write your goals down. You can put them on a poster on your wall, write them in a journal, put them in a blog post, etc. you can even put them in multiple places! Writing them down makes them seem more concrete and makes them seem like more of a commitment. It will help to hold yourself more accountable if your goals are somewhere you can actually see them and look at them on a regular basis. Having them physically written somewhere can also act as a great reminder for you when you look back at where you have written them.

It is important that you have solid reasons for wanting to achieve the things on your list and for why those are your goals because that can impact how likely you are to accomplish them. If you want to do something just to impress someone else it will probably be harder to achieve it than if you are doing something in order to better yourself or something that will help the people around you.

Tell someone else about your goals, this can be a big plus. They may be able to provide you with some suggestions for achieving them or they may let you know that they have similar goals. You and whoever you tell your goals to could work on achieving your goals together which is a win-win and can also help to keep you accountable and ensure that you are making progress.

As I've mentioned in previous posts; one way to make achieving your goals more realistic is to break them down into smaller steps or to be very specific with them. I've used this example before but if a goal was to drink more water, instead of leaving it so vague it is beneficial to determine how many glasses to drink a day. It may be easier to start out with drinking 4 glasses a day for a week and once 4 a day becomes second nature then move on to 5 glasses and so forth.

Another tip is to make a real plan for how you are going to achieve your goal or abide by your resolution. It can be very beneficial to actually block out time in your planner for doing certain things that will help you with what you want to accomplish. If you want to be more physically fit and exercise more an example of implementing this tip would be to buy a pass for a number of classes even if you aren't 100% sure about when you will be able to go to the classes. Only do this if you are able to. If you have the means to do it and the only reason you have put it off is because you come up with excuses for not going then this will really help you. It will "force" you to go to the classes unless you want to waste the money you spent. And again, only do this if it is realistic for you.

It is also very helpful to put reminders on your phone to give yourself a little nudge to do something, such as drinking another glass of water (or whatever applies to what your resolutions are). An additional tip is to be nice to yourself and put some notes in your planner on the pages of future months with quotes or words like "you've got this", "keep going", etc. This can be a nice surprise when you come across them and they can motivate you and give you an extra push.

Reflecting on your progress each week or each month can be advantageous and will allow you to evaluate how you are doing. It can act as motivation once you look back at how far you have already come. And it will allow you to determine what changes you need to make in your life if you have not been progressing as much as you'd hoped to.

Another thing that can be beneficial is to give yourself some deadlines or mini finish lines with a specified amount of how much of something you need to achieve by an established day. Maybe a goal is to save money for a vacation, in this case you can determine an amount to save by a certain month. This can provide even more motivation and add a good bit of pressure to "force" you to make progress. You can also reward yourself for reaching a mini goal or for making a certain amount of progress which is again a way to motivate yourself and give you another reason for completing something.

And speaking of reasons for doing something, it is proven that people feel good when they help others so if you make a goal that helps someone else it will benefit you as well. An example would be to consistently volunteer somewhere and make a difference. You will also be more likely to do something if other people are depending on you and you are making a positive difference in someone else's life. A bonus is that once you see how you're doing something great and meaningful you will see that you do have drive and commitment. This demonstrates that you are capable of doing whatever you set your mind to.

Lastly, just believe in yourself. This is very cheesy but it is true and it can really work. It is sometimes hard to do, and maybe believing in yourself is another goal to add to your list (I know this is something I am constantly working on). You can take baby steps towards it. Practicing affirmations related to staying positive and being  proud of yourself is worthwhile. You may say things like: "look how far you've come and all you have done". You may not realize how much you've accomplished in life and again it goes to show that you are capable of so much!

I hope that you found these tips for how to reach your goals and how to stick to new year's resolutions to be helpful! I know that you can accomplish great things and be an absolute girl boss!
