Schitt's Creek Outfit Ideas
Schitt's Creek Outfit Ideas!
Outfits inspired by the characters David Rose, Alexis Rose, and Stevie Budd! Schitt's Creek is one of my favorite shows and I have watched all of the seasons so far except for the final one! Most of the characters in Schitt's Creek have very defined and distinctive styles and how they dress really adds more dimension to the characters. Their styles are an important way for them to express themselves and show who they are.
I decided to put together some outfits inspired by Schitt's Creek character's so if you want to know how to dress like David Rose, how to dress like Alexis Rose from Schitt's Creek or how to dress like Stevie Budd then I hope this post gives you some ideas!
I did not purchase anything extra to put together these Schitt's Creek outfits, I just used items that were already in my house. Again, these are just outfits inspired by the character's styles and how they dress, not recreations of any of their specific outfits.

New York City Day Trip: Attending a Fashion Trade Show
Hi everyone, I hope that you've been doing well! I recently was in New York City for the day to attend Coterie and I thought I'd do a recap! Coterie is a large fashion trade show that occurs annually and allows buyers from various brands, boutiques, and stores to view collections by thousands of designers. This is part of the wholesale sector of the fashion industry. Buyers can see the lines in person, ask questions, etc. and place orders. It is a multi day event and my college organized a day trip for fashion students to go on. My professors, peers and I attended the last day of the trade show. It was a long day with lots to take in but I found it to be very interesting! My school had offered this trip in the past and I had not gone but as I am a senior now and it would be my last chance I decided to take advantage of the opportunity!
In order to minimize what I'd have to do in the morning I chose my outfit the day before and packed the bag I was taking so that I wouldn't have to worry about or waste time or forget anything in the morning.
Coterie is very, very large and the trade show consisted of multiple floors. The main area was a huge open room with hundreds and hundred of booths set up with each brand having their own and displaying their collections however they wanted to. Some of the brands kept it more simplistic and others brought in lots of props and decorations to make the booth their own and convey the brand's message and image. Free People had a large booth and it was decorated gorgeously, very bohemian and lots of flowers everywhere. Alice and Olivia's booth was extremely colorful, fun and sparkly. They also had a large sign with the message "Empowered Women Empower Women" which I loved!
Each brand had a representative or a couple reps to show the lines to interested buyers and to talk to them about the pieces. Although we as students could walk around and look at everything the reps were not very eager to talk to us (since it is an industry event and we wouldn't be placing orders or giving them business). It was still an interesting experience though I feel like I wish I learned more.
After walking around the show for a couple of hours my friend and I decided to grab some lunch. The area of NYC we were in was very industrial as it is an area for conventions and our professors told us the best option for food was actually in the convention center. We came across a "food court" area (not quite a food court but I'm not sure what else to call it), it had a couple different stations for things such as pasta, pizza, and burgers. I ran into some of my professors and they mentioned that they got delicious pizza and so my friend and I decided to go for that option and we were definitely not disappointed. The pizza was amazing! It had mozzarella, basil, feta, prosciutto, balsamic and it was sooooo good! I would eat it everyday if I could! Okay Emily, enough about the food - back to the main topic.
After we ate we had a little more time to walk around before 3:30 when we had to board the buses to go home. I ended up coming across the booth for the brand that I work part time for. They had some new items on display and I was able to meet some of the people that work in the brand's NY office as I work in the MA one. They informed me about the new shoe line that will be out soon and it's exciting as the brand has never done shoes before, only apparel. Then it was time to meet everyone in the convention center's lobby and to head on home.

Preparation
The day we were going to Coterie was a Wednesday and as we had to leave campus at 6:30am I wanted to go to bed early on Tuesday. I hoped to get a decent amount of sleep so I wouldn't be too tired on Wednesday and I'd be able to enjoy the day and get the most out of the trip. Of course that didn't really work out though. I got in bed at like 10:40, which is very early for me since I usually go to bed after 1am (not something I'm happy about but #college lol). Unfortunately I had such a hard time falling asleep though, probably because I'm not used to going to bed so early. Though even once 2am came around I still couldn't sleep. It's one of those things that of course because I wanted to sleep I couldn't. I even looked up ways to make you fall asleep and those didn't help. So finally around 3am I think I feel asleep. Then I got a nice 2.5 hours of sleep before waking up around 5:30.
In order to minimize what I'd have to do in the morning I chose my outfit the day before and packed the bag I was taking so that I wouldn't have to worry about or waste time or forget anything in the morning.
The Morning of the Trip
I was very happy that I prepared the day before so that I was a little less stressed on Wednesday morning. The day of the trip we had a very early start as we wanted to have enough time at the trade show and the drive from my school (in Massachusetts) to the convention center in NYC was around 5 hours! All of the professors and students met in front of the campus center and we waited for out buses to arrive. We needed 2 coach buses as there were about 80 of us going on the trip. We left my school around 6:30am. Some people brought pillows and blankets so that they could sleep on the bus, surprisingly at that point I did not feel very tired, I knew it would hit me later though.
The Journey There
We made our way to New York from Massachusetts through Connecticut. As I mentioned the drive is a decent amount of hours. I wanted to listen to music but I did not want to drain my phone battery so I only used it for a little while. I did try to sleep on the bus but was not very successful and so I just rested my eyes. We stopped at a rest stop in Connecticut about halfway into the drive in order to give the driver a break and so all of us could stretch our legs, walk around a bit after sitting for so many hours and grab a bite to eat. The rest stop was not crowded when we arrived as it was so early but the 80 or so of us definitely filled it up. There were really only 2 options for breakfast food though which meant long lines at each of them. This was a bit of an issue since we didn't have very long at the rest stop and people had to wait for their orders to be ready. I only got an iced tea and a muffin and didn't have to wait at all but some people who ordered more complex things had to wait. And as there were so many of us there was a backup with the food preparation and our professors were starting to worrying about timing. Once everyone had their orders filled and everyone boarded the buses we were on our way again. The buses were a bit more lively now as people were more awake which is understandable because we finally got food!
The Trade Show Itself: Coterie
As we were driving through Connecticut and getting closer to New York City the traffic started getting worse as was expected. When we finally arrived in the city we still had a decent amount of driving to do before we reached the convention center and the traffic in the city was so hectic. We were all so happy once we made it to the Jacob Javits Center and were able to get off the buses and get in the tradeshow. We all entered the building, checked in, and got our official passes. Then we took a group photo and were set free to roam around the tradeshow.

Although it wasn't even 4pm yet the professors, other students, and I all were a bit worn out from the long day since we had been up and about for about 10 hours. We were all ready to sit and relax -well as much as one can while on a bus. The traffic leaving the city was horrible. It took at least an hour to get out of the city itself and took so much longer to get to Connecticut than we hoped it would. Once we had been on the road for a few hours we stopped at a rest stop and got dinner. I was not very hungry and had a couple granola bars in my bag so I did not get any food at the rest stop. It was then time to get on the buses again and continue our journey home. Luckily the bus had tvs and so we voted on a movie to watch which ended up being La La Land. This helped to pass the time and I really like the soundtrack from that movie! When we finally got back to campus around 10:30pm everyone departed and most people headed for their dorms. At this point I was hungry and knew it'd be wise to eat something. The dining hall on campus itself was closed but the late night grill area was open and my friend and I decided to stop by there to grab some food before going back to our dorms.
Ending Thoughts
All in all it was a pretty jam packed day with lots to take in and was a bit overwhelming at times. However I feel like it would have been more beneficial if my professors gave us more information and direction rather than have us just walk around the trade show somewhat aimlessly. It was also a little disappointing that we were not allowed to take many photos. This is understandable as the collections were not out yet and brands did not want to risk their designs or anything being copied. I also would have liked to be able to talk to people in the booths more and learn from them but as I mentioned they were not really interested in talking to students. I do understand that though, I did not want to bother them or take up their time that could be spent with buyers. But if a booth was empty of buyers I don't know why the reps were still so standoffish to students. Overall there were many more pros than cons to the trip and I am glad that I went on it and got to experience it!

How to Style a T-Shirt Dress for Fall
How to style a t-shirt dress for fall! I love t-shirt dresses because they are so simple and versatile, and not to mention, comfortable! Although t-shirt dresses are very popular for summer they can also transition nicely into fall fashion too. T-shirt dresses can be solid colors or they can have a design such as stripes. I think that these are the two most common types and I prefer these as they are easy to style in a multitude of ways!
I can up with three different ways to style a t-shirt dress for fall! I also made a video that goes along with this post showing you the different looks! (I included it at the bottom of the post). Let me know which option is your favorite in the comments!
The first option I wanted to share with you all is to wear a t-shirt dress with a neck scarf and some Steve Madden slip-on shoes. I think that using a small scarf or a bandana adds the right amount of chicness to the look yet it is still kept casual enough to work for so many situations due to the shoes paired with the outfit! A simple black, leather backpack also ups the chicness of the look and gets extra points for being practical and cute!
Another way you can style t-shirt dresses is by wearing a flannel over them. Flannels are an essential wardrobe item during fall and they are great for layering. They will not only give your outfit more color and a definite autumn vibe but also keep you warm when the days are starting to slowly get chillier. You can wear the flannel unbuttoned or button halfway or all the way (depending on your preference) or tie it. I did not button my flannel and tied it loosely in the center but feel free to play around and see how you like it if you want to tie yours! I paired this look with some black Converse to keep with the overall relaxed and comfortable theme of this outfit!
The last way I styled my t-shirt dress is by far the edgiest of the three options. I still kept it simple and easy though to achieve the look. I threw on a black leather jacket with some cool seam detailing and wore some black leather ankle boots. This look is perfect for a night out and makes a bold statement!

One of the things that I love about fashion is how easy it is to wear the same item in so many different ways and achieve so many different looks just by changing a few things. I know I only showed three ways to style a t-shirt dress but there are plenty more! And in each of the outfits I only added two or three items and created a look with a completely different vibe!

Summer Fashion Essentials
Summer 2017 trends: I have actually really been liking a lot of the trends I've been seeing this summer! I usually keep up on trends but that does not mean that I always like them or follow them. But the trends of summer 2017 were right up my alley and I wanted to talk about them!
It feels like the summer has just flown by, I can't believe that I'll be back at school in such a short amount of time! As I mentioned, I usually keep an eye on the trends of each season but I wouldn't label myself exclusively as a trend follower. Since I am a fashion merchandising major it is important that I know what is popular and trending but that does not always means that I will like the trends or incorporate them into my wardrobe. I wear things that fit my own style and I won't wear something I don't like just because it is "on trend". What I think is great about fashion is that everyone has their own unique style and fashion is a great way to express your personality. Even if you are wearing something that is trendy you can still put your own spin on it!
Below are what I consider to be the biggest trends of summer 2017 and the fashion essentials of the season!
First I thought that I would start off by talking about some of the summer's key colors and prints and then move on to specific items and silhouettes!
Blue & White
This color combination had a major moment! Blue and white are both such classic colors that pair well with a lot of things and they look so great together too! Vertical stripes of blue and white were one of the main ways I saw this combo on shirts, dresses, and even on pants too. It makes pieces have such a timeless look and white and a lighter blue has such a fun and festive feeling too it while white and a darker blue such as navy is perfect for the office or a moral formal event, it makes you look very put together.
Millenial Pink
This tone of muted pink has been everywhere. It is very versatile and looks great on everyone. Sometimes pink can be very bold, loud, and look juvenile but a shade such as millenial pink does not look juvenile because it is so soft and toned down. It is an easy color to wear and works as wonderfully in a causal outfit as it does for a more dressed up occasion.
Pale Yellow
This sunny color has gotten more attention recently too. Yellow was my all time favorite color when I was younger but I prefer pastel yellow over highlighter yellow and so I was very glad that pale yellow was the shade whose popularity increased. As with millenial pink it is a soft tone and tranquil which makes it easier to add to your wardrobe and style.
Gingham
Gingham was all over everything this summer. I found that a bit surprising at first because to me it is more of a retro motif and reminds me of fashion in the 1950s and 60s. I personally like the fashion of those decades and think that it's great that we can see the inspiration from them in fashion today. It is a very classic print which definitely has a summer vibe to it, when I think of gingham I think of the 50s, 60s, Jackie Kennedy, picnics/BBQs and just summer celebrations in general I guess.
Palm Print
Palm print has really gained popularity and it is perfect for summer time as palm trees and plants thrive during this season. There's just something about plants and plant motifs that is so refreshing and energizing. The palm print is so cute and fun too! Also Pantone's color of the year for 2017 is Greenery which is very, very, fitting and shows how accurate they are with forecasting.

Off the Shoulder
Off the shoulder was definitely one of the most popular styles of clothing I saw this summer. Flowy tops and dresses were very in and since they are so comfortable it made the off the shoulder look even better! Having your shoulders exposed can help keep you a bit cooler during the summer months and it looks cute too which is probably why so many people wore off the shoulder items and is why it became a trend. Also, it is such a different silhouette than what has been in style and so a change is always exciting!
Fun Sandals
Wearing sandals that are not only comfortable but those that are very fun as well was a huge trend this summer. Sandals with various types of tying or various lace up styles were the most common footwear this summer. Sandals that had fun tassels or laced up were still very popular and so were back less sandals. We also saw that carry into other shoes such as mules.
Block Heels
Block heels was another style that was everywhere this summer. It was a simple and cute summer style that could be worn in a casual or more dressed up manner. Since it was so versatile and the fact that they're more comfortable than other types of heels makes the style such a winner.
Fun Accessories
Tassels were a big detail this summer, as I mentioned they were used on sandals and tassel earrings were also trending and very prevalent. Pom poms were another decorative element I saw a lot on sandals this summer too. Another fun accessory was wide brimmed hats that had cute puns or sayings on them. Such as "Follow the Sun"

Top Current Trends I'm Loving
This summer there have been some trends that I have really been loving, as you can tell by the title of this post! I really like the chill vibe that I've been seeing a lot lately. What I mean by this is that that simple and basic pieces are really in right now. But I also love that most have a unique twist such as cut-outs or cool necklines. I have also been seeing a lot of solid colored pieces or items with bold stripes. I decided to share my favorite types of pieces below!

Bomber jackets:
-
Although it is summer and that means that temperatures are usually
higher it does cool down a bit at night and so I think that having some
good layering pieces is necessary. Bomber jackets are very in right now.
They give an effortless cool vibe to an outfit. Also I like that
depending on the material and cut of the jacket it can drastically
change your whole look. Leather gives a completely different aesthetic
to an outfit than satin or corduroy. I really just love layering and
jackets in general and am glad they are having their moment!
Lace up flats:
-
I also think that lace up flats are very pretty. The concept of them is
pretty simple and minimalistic but they just add so much to an outfit. I
also love how versatile they are. These shoes can be worn with skinny
jeans, boyfriend jeans, a casual dress, or with a more formal outfit and
still look great with whatever they're paired with.
Tee shirt dresses:
-
Tee shirt dresses are so simple as well yet look so cute. They are so
easy to just throw on and still make you look put together. And again
are another very versatile item that can be dressed up or down depending
on what accessories or other pieces you wear it with. I prefer these
dresses in a solid color or any combination of black, white, and or navy
stripes. (Stripes in this color palette give me such a nautical vibe
and remind me of the beach and summertime).
"Basic" shirts:
- Not so basic, basic shirts. What I mean by this are shirts that would be basic but are not because of their necklines or "details".
Shirts with lacing or ties are a huge trend right now. These can cut
down pretty low but don't show too much which I like. You could also
wear a cool bandeau or bralette underneath. I also like that they do
come in varying levels of "showiness" and so everyone can find something
they are comfortable with.
Denim & button up skirts:

Denim and front buttoning skirts (or a combo of the two) are another
trend I am really liking. Who would have thought that denim skirts would
be in again? I did not think it would happen and I'm sure a lot of
other people didn't either but I'm glad I was wrong. In my opinion they
are pretty cute and just have a great summer vibe to them but can
definitely transition into fall as well just as the bomber jacket can. I
also like that button up skirts come in so many fabrics as well and
that can help them be multi-seasonal as well. Corduroy ones would look
great with riding boots in the fall. What are some of your favorite summer trends?

Castle Island Adventure
Hi guys, I hope you are having a great summer!
I finally made it to the beach! My mom recently mentioned that she had wanted to visit Castle Island which is located in South Boston. None of us had ever been there before so we were excited to go. There is a fort, Fort Independence, a restaurant known for its sea food of course, a couple beaches, a playground and walking trails.
We took the T and a bus and arrived at one of the beaches. My mom and I went in the water a little as we walked along from one end of the island to get to the restaurant located on the other end. As we were walking we saw some shells, sea glass, and horse shoe prints. The latter was definitely a surprise. I guess that the rangers patrol on horses, a not so nice surprise was that we passed some other evidence left by the horses which we made sure to avoid getting too close to.
On the walk over to the restaurant we saw a lot of low flying planes and assumed we were close to the airport. We also saw some large machines that my sister was very intrigued by and wanted to know what they were. As we got closer and closer to the restaurant we also got closer and closer to the machines and were able to determine that they were for taking large cargo containers off of ships and putting them on the land. We finally made it to Sullivan's to have lunch. It is similar to Kelly's if you are familiar with the MA area. We got fish and chips and it was really good. My mom, sister, and I split two meals between the three of us, it was very filling.
Since we were so full and wanted to walk it off we made our way past another beach, the playground, saw some statues and made it to the fort. Only to the find out that visitors can only enter on Saturdays and Sundays and it was a Friday (probably one of the only times I will be annoyed that it was a Friday lol). We couldn't complain too much though because we still had a beautiful view of Boston and the harbor, were surround by the ocean, and had great weather. Oh and don't forget, we figured out what those machines were for! So it was still a successful journey.

A Day at the MFA
Hi everyone!
My mom, sister, and I have been attempting to be tourists in our own city this summer! There are so many things to do and see in and around the Boston area and New England in general. It is a place filled with so much history and culture. So many things have happened here and it is still an area so bustling and full of life. Although Boston can be an expensive city (it is listed in the top 10 of many travel websites as being one of the most expensive in the U.S.) there are a good amount of cheap or even free things to do though so don't worry! Many museums are free at certain times on specific days. There is also a program called Free Fridays which lists when many venues in the city and other parts of Massachusetts have no cost admission.

My mom, sister and I went to the MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) this past Friday. It is one of my all time
favorite museums. I love that is has such a diverse collection and I love wandering through the exhibit halls and coming across new pieces and paintings. They have things from ancient Egypt and China, pieces from Europe dating back to the Middle Ages, Rembrandt masterpieces, paintings by Monet, contemporary art, and everything in between. They also always have really great feature exhibits such as the recent #techstyle one I was very excited about seeing.
This exhibit was all about the relationship between fashion and technology. There were some really great concepts behind the pieces and showed a lot of ingenuity. There were 3D printed shoes, a Ralph Lauren purse with a built in charger for electronic devices, a few garments showing off their laser cut details. A jacket with solar panels, a dress from a Victor & Rolf collection that had a frame and could be hung up on the wall as a legitimate piece of art when not being worn, as well as countless other fascinating pieces utilizing technology in new ways.
We also visited other galleries. Here are a few pieces I thought were cool, I didn't get to take too many pictures but I thought I'd show you some that I did get to take.
We spent a good number of hours explore and there's so much more we didn't even get to see. I'm sure I'll be back again. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you have the chance. It is also very easy to get to and has its own stop on the Green Line.
